Giving Your Clients a Head Start on Content

One of the major contributors to missing project deadlines is delayed content delivery. Your clients need help with this, and you can help them. And who better to help us talk about our clients’ content than the Queen of Content herself, Bridget Willard?

From marketing consultant to social media manager, to being a major contributor to plugins and a prolific self-published author, Bridget does it all, and then some. I’ve known Bridget for over a year now, and she really is a true inspiration. I’m so thankful she’s come to Can We Talk today.

Bridget is constantly helping her clients get over the content hurdle, and her latest plugin is a reflection of that goal. It’s a project that was influenced by the number of hats that she’s worn over the years.

The truth is this: There is no industry or site that doesn’t have issues producing content some of the time, but it’s an absolutely essential part of internet visibility. Your sites can’t risk running without it!

Bridget’s got the expertise and the mic today on Can We Talk, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share what I took from our fun, engaging, and informative chat today!

  • Don’t wait on your clients—get the ball rolling for them.

Bridget was clear to point out that in a lot of cases, the reason that content coming from clients is delayed has to do with the “intimidation factor”. It can be really frustrating and difficult for clients to create their own content, and staring at a blank screen, or a blank sheet of paper, can easily lead to delays for both them and you.

The solution? Taking the intimidation factor out of the equation.

By hiring a writer, repurposing content that already exists, using a plugin, or setting up another plan, you can bypass the stall of delayed content and get their sites up and running faster.

  • Repurposed content is better than no content at all.

Has your client already created content that deserves another look? Are they in a position where they are unable to edit content?

Above all, the most important thing is that there is activity and presence on your sites. It’s more important than making every post original and different. See what you can use that your client already has and give it a fresh presentation to increase their content volume.

  • Make your content (and your clients’) personal.

If “content is like meatloaf”, as Bridget hilariously said, everyone’s content has similar aspects but its own approach, flair, and personal identity. Make sure to add that to yours as well!

What can you do to set yourself apart? How can you market yourself and your clients differently? What can you offer your clients, or advise them to offer, that will give them an advantage? Keep all of these questions in consideration when designing your content.

  • Social media is important, but not in the way you think.

Clients and agency owners alike will often neglect their social media with the false impression that, because they don’t have tons of followers, it’s not really worth it. This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Social media is a great marketing tool in that it keeps you present in terms of internet activity. If you’re engaging with other sites and industry professionals, as well as with potential clients, you’re more likely to appear in relevant search results—no matter how many accounts are following you.

Though sites aren’t meant to be an art project, they are meant to be an important tool. That tool relies on content to function. I’m so glad that Bridget came here to reinforce some ideas that I already had and contribute new ones! Keep content at the forefront of your sites, and keep your eyes peeled for our next weekly conversation!
